Update: 11:05AM
ALL LOCKDOWNS HAVE BEEN LIFTED.
Today, at the direction of 911 and the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department, all school campuses were placed on lockdown after an anonymous tip reported that a threat had been made toward one of our schools - Iaeger Elementary School. Out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement requested that all campuses initiate lockdown procedures while officers responded and conducted safety sweeps of each campus.
We are thankful for our school staff who immediately followed established safety protocols and for our law enforcement partners who responded quickly to our campuses to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
We understand that situations like this can be very scary and unsettling for everyone involved. This is exactly why we continue to train regularly and make school safety a top priority. Our staff and students did an excellent job following procedures, and those preparations help ensure we are ready to respond when needed.
Please know that we will continue working closely with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation to determine who is responsible and ensuring those individual(s) are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. Thank you for your continued support of our schools.
